Brian.......Thanks for the video. That is an amazing piece of mechanical ingenuity. Interesting to note the cassette wasn't invented until 1962, and then only used for dictation. It took years for the transport to be modernized to the point where wow and flutter became acceptably low enough to allow music to be reproduced using the format.

What a great piece of engineering. I wonder what it cost. There are a lot of parts and labor that went into making that. Compare that to some of today's gear that weighs 10 pounds and sells for $10K.

The majority of my cassettes were recorded by me, I would have been wheeling and dealing for one of those back in the day. I sure supported Maxell, which was my preference, and TDK. Mostly all high bias/chrome.

I hardly listened to them any more once my system began moving upstream so offloaded all the tapes at a ridiculous low price. But, as I tend to do, I ignore the writing on the wall and hold onto things too long

I haven't been able to let go of my admittedly small collection of tapes. I'm keeping them until there is either a cassette tape revival and new high end decks are released, or I add a resto'd Onkyo or Nakamichi deck one day. You can still buy the great Sony Metal Master tapes, though not cheap!
