    Re: Magico M6

Interesting. I predicted an M7 would be released and wasn't far wrong. Based on its design and driver compliment, the M6 appears to be the successor to the M Pro, not a replacement for the discontinued Q5 (hence the M6 model designation).

This new model also includes several design innovations incl: a more rounded edgeless design (reminiscent of the Thiel CS3.7), carbon monocoque chassis without the complex cross-bracing of the M3, use of a carbon fiber midrange enclosure, higher quality integrated tripod support which supports the curved cabinet shape & more refined tweeter. It should do for future speaker development what the M Pro did in 2014. I like it!

    Re: Magico M6

I love the M6's design except for the base. The base doesn't look as stable as the M3's and from the side view, it doesn't integrate well into the body of the speaker. Other than that, it looks like a winner. I wonder how many M-Project owners will make the move to the M6?

I personally like the new tripod base & think it will be as stable as the M3, if not more so. I thought at first the speaker was just connected via the narrow rectangular aluminium section, but on closer inspection I noted it has a triangular mounting which should provide a very solid coupling.

It's a replacement for the Q5 according to Magico - only a lot better.

Yes I see where they're coming from as it essentially does replace the Q5. But to me the M6 model designation and similar driver compliment to the M Pro suggests it is a new model in its own right.

Watched the vid again and there in nothing about the new tweeter. There is also no mention of different bracing - in fact, from the published M6 drawings it seems that front and back are clamped by the same system of tensioning rods as used in the M3.

To me the M6 looks just like the bigger M3, with different support, even more rounded edges and a CF mid enclosure (instead of plymer one).

It does to me also. But I'll bet the tweeter itself is basically a separate cabinet.

    Re: Magico M6

Thanks for posting the official press release Mike. Very impressive indeed! The press release also confirms my earlier statement that the M6 eschews the complex cross-bracing of the M3 due to the higher strength carbon fiber cabinet & has a more refined tweeter.

I would think the tweeters are sandwiched between front and inner baffel and only attached with screws to the front baffel like the MPro.

Is WB using a monocoque design ? They certainly borrowed the CF mid enclosure from Wilson Benesch, as they introduced it last year.

Yep. Slight deviation from the Magico announcement but yes, WB are big into similar use of carbon mono design. See this link for more on WB's monocoque approach

I wonder why M6 was only on static display in Munich? Perhaps there are some refinements in the works and the display example was not a final production ready version.

It wasn't on static display in Munich. They are still fine tuning things.

I did not see it and Yair Tammam told me they're still working on it.

I hope to hear them when I visit Magico on June 19th. Just not sure they will be finalized though.

Hasn't Marten been doing this for a while with the Coltrane?

    http://www.monoandstereo.com/2017/06...edium=facebook

So CF is stronger and has less resonance ringing than aluminum............interesting

It also has a different sonic characteristic.

The use of the word CF can mean many different things, not all CF uses in a product are the same. The only description of Marten construction method that I could find is “The carbon fiber laminate is two layers of carbon sandwiched together with honeycomb Kevlar in between”. That is very different then Magico description of a “0.6” solid carbon body”. A common thickness of one layer of CF is ~0.5mm. In that case, the Magico enclosure will have to be made of 60 layers of CF sheets in comparison to Marten’s 2 layers.

It's funny, all this talk of carbon fiber and NO ONE talks about the sound. That's the thing I noticed. It sounds different, and to my ears, grrrrrreat!
