Parasound halo 21
I have been lent this amp for a week , just got it this morning.
First impression is: at low level it is fine from bottom to highs, but at relatively high volume the latters become harsh.... It makes my compressions shouting.
I know it runs class A for the first 8W but when i say "at low levels" i mean not that low, so class AB has entered the game and it s already not class A amp but AB I listen to...
What is your experience with this amp ?HiFi: Moon 180MIND Bryston BDA2 Bryston BP17 Phono MC275 CE JBL 4430 (crossover redone)

Re: Parasound halo 21
I own this amp and gave it to my son after upgrading to a Pass amp. Years ago when it came out is was a great amp. But it is long in the tooth now. I haven't seen anything to say that it has been upgraded. I ran it with my Magnepan 1.6's and a tube preamp. It does pair well with a Parasound preamp. A friend of mine has a P7 preamp with A21 and Sonus Faber Venere 3.0 speakers and it sounds pretty damn good.
I find that it is a little grainy and lacks some air and transparency. It has very good bass control. I have not had any issues with it breaking up at loud volumes. It has plenty of current (60 peak amps) and power. It does sound a little better with XLR input. On paper, the spec's are fantastic, very fast slew rate 130V/usec., dampening >1100, and a very good signal to noise ratio. But spec's are not everything. My Gear- Mains System-Pass X250 amp, BAT VK-51se preamp, Luxman DA-06 DAC, Magnepan 1.6's, Thorens TD-145 TT, Dual Martin Logan Subs, Vintage Luxman T-110 Tuner, Cables-WW Platinum 7 USB, Cardas Parsec XLR, AQ Columbia DBS 72v XLR, Belden 8402 XLR.

Re: Parasound halo 21
I have found adjusting the input gain controls helps with harshness depending on what preamp you are using. It is a great amp but not the end all in openness and clarity.

Re: Parasound halo 21
I found it be a really good value. It's not perfect but really good in it's price range.

Re: Parasound halo 21
It has a lot of features for the price. Adjustable gain, ground lift, XLR, 12v trigger, runs in class A for the first 8 wpc. It is built like a tank and Parasound customer service is very good. It weighs in at 60lbs. I would be interested in how Odyssey Audio amps and the new Schiit Vidar monoblocks compare. 100wpc 8 ohm, 200 4 ohm with XLR for $1400pr. for the Vidars
