Congratulations Adam. The M3 are fine speakers. Will they be powered by the MSB amps after their initial break-in period? I have heard other Magico products powered by MSB at a local dealer and it was a pretty good combo.

We all expect them to be more than good. After some time it would be great to get your view about whether they are just better than the S5 mk2 or whether they are in another universe - and if so, why they are.

Most important thing is of course that you enjoy them, so no priority on this enquiry Magico M3 arrived today.

    Re: Magico M3 arrived today

    Thanks guys !

I think I'm gonna put them in my listening room next week. I need to ask someone to come over and help me out - getting the speakers out of the crates was suprisingly easy (I did it alone using the ramp that is built-in into the crates - a very clever design !), but substituting the casters with the M-Pods is a different story. The speakers are suprisingly heavy - they weight 145kg vs 86kg for the S5 - almost twice the weight for what is a more compact speaker. Certainly lots of aluminum and CF went into manufacturing of this speaker.

Many have asked about the subs. I'm not sure I'm gonna need them. My room is rather small at 14x19. It also has concrete floors and half of the walls (the other half is made from 3 layers of reinforced plasterboard totaling 1.5 inch) so I have a minimum bass leakage compared to most american rooms. I will probably try them anyway once the speakers settle, since the REL distributor is a good friend of mine, so why not

It is not that they need subs ... more like they can further improve the experience. But that can be said about almost any speaker. People are been using subs even with the big Wilsons X-2 / XLF.

I don't disagree. I'm just agreeing with your statement that you don't need them.

I have a pair of REL G2s that I use once in a while, but it's much easier to muck up the sound that it is to enhance it (at least in my experience).

    Yes ,

Thats is correct , because most speakers when pulled out into the room wont reach very low , when they are placed for best imaging and sonics.

Separate subs allows you to fill in ...

Yes, at least for the time beeing. By audio budget is busted, ha ha.

Those are seriously good amps. Way underrated IMO. Especially the M202 mons that I have, that can be had for like $6-8k used. I have compared them to several amps, like Momentums or Vitus SM-011 monos - yes those were better, but not hugly better. I have actually prefered my MSB to Vitus SM-011 when the later was run in Class AB. It was only after I switched them to pure Class A mode the Vitus monos pulled slightly ahead.

I was actually contemplating upgrading the amps first to sth like Vitus SM-011 or SM-102 monos, but after speaking with some people that had experience with Vitus, MSB and Magcio, they all said that S5 mk 2 > M3 will bring me more benefit.

Now that I have the M3s, I can start the amp search

I need to ask someone to come over and help me out - getting the speakers out of the crates was suprisingly easy (I did it alone using the ramp that is built-in into the crates - a very clever design !), but substituting the casters with the M-Pods is a different story. The speakers are suprisingly heavy - they weight 145kg vs 86kg for the S5 - almost twice the weight for what is a more compact speaker. Certainly lots of aluminum and CF went into manufacturing of this speaker.

I have heard the M3s with D'Agostino and it was a very nice match.

Not heard the Vitus with them, though.

    Re: Magico M3 arrived today

Unfortunately - there is no Gryphon distributon in Poland. Besides, that would violate audiophile rule #1: don't borrow stuff, you cannot afford to buy

In the meantime, the M3s are burning in nicely in my living room system:
