Same system that hooked a lot of people I imagine. Although, for me this was only about 7 years ago.

    - Dynaco A25's (recapped)
    - Marantz 1060
    - Marantz 6300 with Shure MX97Xe

    Here's a pic.

    - Woody

I like it !! Very good choice...!!!

    First :
    Compact High Fidelity : Continental Edison with integrated cassette player/turntable and 2 x 10 W ... it's a toy...

    First really :

    Technics SL-1210 MK II + Ortofon X1-MC
    Luxman LV100 ( integrated amplifier )
    Cabasse FUN
Sony STJ X5 ( Tuner only FM )
    Luxman K100 ( cassette )

I have always Technics SL-1210 MK II and Luxman K100...and they work well...(1986)...

    Hi.
I'm very fond of Luxman (the CD combo and tube preamp of my main system are from this brand -circa 1989/90).
What type of integrated is your LV 100 (transistors, tubes, hybrid, class...)? And.. how about its sound?
    Cheers.

My first system was made up of:

    - Cabasse MT30 Jersey/Epos M12.2 (loudspeakers),
    - Slim Devices Squeezebox,
    - Naim NACA 5 (loudspeaker cables),
    - DIY RCA cables,
    - AQ NRG-5 power cables
    - MacBook Pro
    - Aavik rack,
    - Omicron Gold Evolution feet and Stabilizzatore Armonico.

But the system that got me hooked was the 2nd one:
    - Jeff Rowland Concerto,
    - Usher Be-718,
    - AQ Mont Blanc/Volcano,
    - Weiss DAC2,
    - AQ Panther,
    - AQ NRG-5,
    - MacBook Pro,
    - Aavik rack,
    - Omicron Gold Evolution feet and Stabilizzatore Armonico.
This one really got me started and drew me deeper into this hobby!

Re: What was your first "audiophile" system...the one that got you hooked?

Back in my late 50's college days students were building their own audio systems, and I was one of them. My first system was a Wharfedale 12" speaker I ordered from 'Allied Radio' I read several technical books by Gilbret Briggs, founder of the Wharfedale Speaker Co., who was experimenting with audio speakers and their enclosures. He was advocating sand filled corner speaker baffles, which I built. If can, find his books, he's the only writer that can write technical books and make them humorous, -with that old 'British Humor', he'll put you in stitches laughing. Also from Allied Radio, I bought a Knight Kit, integrated tube amp, which I built. Later I built a DynaKit, other students were building Heath Kits. Some students were building speaker horns for University speakers, some were using AR speakers with add-on Janzen electrostatic speakers for the high end. For the record player, most used a Reco-cut TT with a GE mc cart., I used a Connasour that had a belt drive and a ceramic platter.

The LV 100 is a integrated amplifier with transistor.
The sound is very good with Cabasse Fun.
I have sell my Cabasse and I bought TDL RTL3, and after Infinity Kappa 100.
    Sorry for the delay.

Re: What was your first "audiophile" system...the one that got you hooked?

I remember my first system was in high school and it was kind of your standard Kenwood receiver/Sony CD player/Radio Shack speaker (with supertweeter!), but the first system where I began to see the potential was a California Audio Labs Icon Mk. II CD player, Carver integrated amplifier, and Genesis 44/2 floorstanders. The Fisher tape deck I acquired in high school kind of stuck around through college (it had Dolby C NR after all).

    Usher CP-6311
    Jolida SJ-302a
    Pioneer BDP-51fd (dynamatted)
    PNF Audio IC's and SC's
    Pangea AC-14SE PC's

I still have the Ushers. Shortly after amassing that system, I purchased the Shuguang S845MK and S200MK mono/pre set and still own those. That first 'real' system is hard to let go of for me. My first wife loved those pieces which makes selling them even more difficult. She passed away 2 years ago and never wanted me to sell them, even when times got tough.

I sold my sansui integrated, Thorens 160 and kept my celestion speakers...
Bought a quad amp and pre, a nakamichi tape deck and michell hydraulic reference.. it was the bee’s knees
so happy and loved it for years and then I bought a hifi magazine........

Re: What was your first "audiophile" system...the one that got you hooked?

First real system was my dad's Garrard TT, Teac Receiver and Sansui SP-2000
First decent shop demo was a Carver setup with HK CDP feeding Martin Logans
First audiophile system was my buddy's ARC Preamp & CDP feeding Aragon 1k monoblocks through Aerial 10Ts. That one did it for me.

My car stereo as a (punk) kid. Eclipse deck, MB Quart Q series fronts, 3 JL Audio 12w6 subs, all Precision Power (PPI) amps.

I had about 7 grand in equipment in a car worth half that. But I loved it. It makes me smile that I still run JL today in my house.
