Most eye opening audio purchase in the last few years?

Thought it would be interesting to hear from others that have added that one special piece of audio gear that has transformed their system.
    Mine was a Lampizator DAC.
While most of my upgrades in equipment have truly been upgrades (instead of disappointments) the insertion of a Lampizator DAC was truly a game changer in my system.
What was it in your system that truly made you sit up and say WOW?

Nice question: Just recently bought the Grandinote Celio phono stage. I think it is a remarkable product, especially for the money.

The one that took me by surprise from eye opening perspective was goldfinger statement v2 cartridge going on spiral groove sg1.2 table. Didn't realize vinyl could sound so transparent and open and big. Second equally big but less surprising was switching to Maggie 20.7. Kept trying to get box speakers that sounded like Maggie's. Easier path was just to just buy the Maggie's.

Esoteric K-03 CD/SACD/DAC in the studio system. Like it so much I bought a second one for the living room system. Not only is the transport heavenly to listen to, digital sources through the DAC are remarkable. Color me a happy camper.

    LOL!!

Exceedingly involving musically, for between 10 to over 100 times less than 'audiophile-approved' cables.

IMO, they do require relatively high efficiency speakers to do their thing...

The best tonearm i've ever heard is the Swedish Analog Technologies (SAT) tonearm. Just incredible insight into the recording, though not cheap! The Thales would offer a lot of musicality at a more approachable price. I also like the Reed tonearms.

I saw the SAT at this years hk hifi show.like a more massive sme. Way above my pay grade.

It would be an interesting comparison as the SAT still is a pivoting tonearm with the associated two null points and higher tracking error depending on alignment. The Thales is near tangential, with a maximum tracking error of 0.0006%.

It would be an interesting comparison as the SAT still is a pivoting tonearm with the associated two null points and higher tracking error depending on alignment. The Thales is near tangential, with a maximum tracking error of 0.0006%.
The SAT arm sounded incredible on the AF1 I auditioned! That was an a-b comparison with a Graham Phantom Supreme arm w/ identical Air Tight Supreme carts. But yes, way above my pay grade as well. The Thales arm seems to offer great bang for the buck. I think i'd still have to have a 2nd Reed 3P arm with a nice Cocobolo arm for fun .

Pass 350.8 amp. It brought my Salon 2s to a whole new level.
