He more than anyone was responsible for taking golf out of the country clubs and getting the general public involved.

    Re: RIP Arnold Palmer

I was a marshal (the guy that holds up the paddle that says Quiet Please) at the 1989 PGA Tournament at Kemper Lakes outside Chicago. Arnie was leading the field going into Saturday at the age of 60. Talk about Arnie's army! Crowd control was impossible.

The crowd would roar with every birdie and other golfers would have to pull away from their putts on other greens. People were hoping that Arnie could pull off what Jack Nicklaus had done at the 1986 Masters with a victory when Jack was in his late 40's.

Arnie gave the hordes real entertainment before the wheels feel off on the back nine of the course.

Arnold Palmer was a classy guy and a great ambassador of the game.

During my early days as a photographer, I was assigned to photograph a number of PGA tournaments, including the US Open. Some names I photographed....Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, Lee Trevino, Chi Chi Rodriguez, Gary Player, Tom Watson.

I've watched him play at Bay Hills where I used to live and I will miss watching him teeing off at the start of the masters. But his biggest impact is his kindness and generosity to children at his children's hospital in Orlando. What a great man with a really big heart.

Had the pleasure of meeting Mr.Palmer at one of the Senior Skins Games at the Mauna Lani Resort.

He not only built the foundation for today's PGA Tour, but helped renew the world's interest in the British Open Championship.

I hope they do something very special for him at the Ryder Club next week.

If you have the opportunity find and watch a one hour film, "Arnie and Me." Outstanding human being. It features everyday people who were lucky enough to have an encounter with Arnie. They were seminal moments in the Everymans' lives that they will never forget. Arnie was accessible and giving and loved by everyone he touched and that touched him. RIP, King. There won't be another one like you.
