    Re: Pre-Amp Shopping

And it looks awesome too. For $700 there really isn't much else from what I have seen that really competes. Schitt's kind of the king of wallet friendly.

    Re: Dream Amps

That's what ultimately steered me off the Jinro - at every show they had a preamp connected so I don't feel they will stand alone as an integrated. My Line Magnetic 219IA was vastly better when used...

    Audio Note UK Factory Tour

Sorry if I am mistaken about the brand(in the write-up it was said to be AG) but this is the photo of the speaker in Audio Note's bike and broom closet from an old factory tour. I believe done by...

    Re: Martens arrive

Sure is a sexy looking system - love how the blue lights from the Pass Labs reflects off the Marten piano black finish.

Re: Audio Note UK Factory Tour

From what I have been told Quad hired Andy Grove away from Audio Note - but Andy was bothered by Quad's financial limitations and went back to Audio Note.

As for SS - Peter has addressed that in...

    Audio Note UK Factory Tour

Since I posted this on AA I figure I'd post it here.

Peter Breuninger (Former Stereophile and TAS reviewer) has looked at AN's new factory which shows you the workings of their amp, CD player, DAC...

Wait, What? Those words coming from you?

  11. Re: If you had to choose only ONE pair of speakers for rest of your life ...

Are those the Mingda Dnynasty Grande monoblock power amps? I've heard those a few times in Hong Kong. Quite good. I suspect they are back breakers.

    Re: Pre-Amp Shopping

I chose the Audio Note M3 Phono Balanced preamp over the ARC as well for a similar reason in the treble. And it seemed to have a slight noise. Perhaps for some added ambiance.

    Perhaps the main...
  13. Re: If you had to choose only ONE pair of speakers for rest of your life ...

The best horn and possibly the best speaker I have heard was from a DIYer in Hong Kong - butt ugly speakers similar to the WE but he had had a company design and build the bass units from scratch and...
  14. Re: If you had to choose only ONE pair of speakers for rest of your life ...

I can only go by what is demonstrated - the AvanteGarde speakers in Hong Kong were north of $20,000 US run with varying tube gear (NAT) north of $100,000. I didn't take the model number down because...
  15. Re: If you had to choose only ONE pair of speakers for rest of your life ...

I haven't really been impressed with Avante Garde as I have found them to have that horn shout and ring about them. I have only heard them at their dealer in Hong Kong and a show - but people have...
  16. Re: If you had to choose only ONE pair of speakers for rest of your life ...

I have my medium room speaker already but for my future big room as it stands now would be an Acapella High Cellini (which sounds better than their more expensive Violoncello II). I have not heard...

    Re: Sugden LS21

Hi Jack I can't disagree with you - I do like Audio Note a whole lot and I do recommend them a lot and on many forums and for over a decade! On the other hand, I am pretty consistent and I believe...

    Re: Sugden LS21

Hi Joe - well that is too bad for AN (and good for Sugden). I know a few dealers who grumble that they make far far too many products. Mis-pricing is fine when the price listed is too high! ...

    Re: Sugden LS21

I think most brands have pricing options. The $50k model for example has different woofers, different tweeters and has an outboard crossover the size of an amplifier with far pricier parts. Other...

    Re: Sugden LS21

You may want to have the speakers placed in the corners and see how that works. Audio Note hired Andy Whittle (LS-3/5a guru from Rogers and Celestion) to design their Zero series speakers which like...

Re: Wilson Maxx 2. vs. Magico S5 mk2

I would add the older Reference 3a Models sounded considerably better than the new ones with the BE tweeters as it seems they are responding to the "IN" tweeter but the character of the speaker has...

Re: Opinions? Revel Studio2 vs Harbeth 40.2?

That's correct - Class A is inherently better just by being class A however. High power class A tubes tends to cost a lot.

Re: Opinions? Revel Studio2 vs Harbeth 40.2?

No I did try the Audio Note SORO with the 40.1 which is similar in sensitivity and it wasn't enough (and the SORO has more balls than the OTO - though I prefer the sound of the less expensive OTO...

    Re: Classe closes for good.

Hi Mike - Well I suppose it comes down to the speakers - obviously the harder to drive the speaker the more problems a SET will have in driving them - but IME the bass and dynamics weakness...
