    Re: Raidho D x.1 announced

Ken, George's post says that they are replacing all of the drivers (except for the 8" in the D5). So I would think that a D3 upgrade would lead to a replacement of all of the drivers except the tweeter. With the D5 technology the bass is less of an issue so maybe that's why they are not replacing the 8" drivers. So that would lead me to believe that if they are replacing the bass drivers in the D3 that they are address the 60-80 hz "enhancment".

Maybe someone who is going to CES can address this issue with Lars or Michael.

But let's remember that Michael B designed these enhancements into the speakers for a reason. Psycho-acoustic reasons?

Maybe someone with direct knowledge can chime in here.

    Hi Le Roy,

It seems that this upgrade centers around increasing efficiency, power handling, dynamic headroom and reducing noise. I haven't read anything thus far about flattening the frequency response in the 60 - 80 Hz range. I believe the boosted mid-bass response is related to Michael's beliefs regarding psychoacoustics (to sweeten the midrange) and I would be surprised if he changes that. However, I would expect the mid-bass to be better controlled at high volume levels. I guess we'll find out in a week.

    Best,
    Ken

I'm guessing there won't be any additional info until or just after CES which starts Wed 1-6. I did find out the upgrade for my D2's is 8250 USD or 7500 Euro with an approx 3-4 week turnaround

Thanks George. Are you planning on doing the D-2 upgrade? From what I've heard, the D-3 upgrade is 9,800 Euro. I won't do the upgrade unless there is a material to significant improvement in sound quality below 75 dB. I primarily listen to smaller jazz combos at low to medium volume levels. One of the biggest attractions of the D-3 for me are its drivers' low mechanical damping, which enable the speakers to deliver tremendously lifelike sound at low to medium volume levels.

Ken as of now I'm planning on the upgrade but I may just get new ones depending on the cost. It would be nice to hear them side by side. I'm most intrigued by the fact there should be an even lower noise floor. Also being a little more dynamic would be the icing on the cake. Like you I don't normally play that loud either but every once and a while I do like to crank them.

BTW do you know if the upgrade cost includes shipping? My local dealer is out of town until tomorrow night.

    Hi George,

As far as I know, the D-3 upgrade cost is 9,800 Euro plus shipping back to Denmark. That would be incredible if you purchased the D-2.1 and did a side-by-side comparison to the D-2. I know a lot of interested Raidho owners would be hanging on your every word.

    Best,
    Ken
