Lumin/Tidal App advice

As much as I love Lumin and Tidal, when it cooperates with me, I've found it to be temperamental from the get go.
It will work flawlessly for a week, and then start bugging out again. My main strategies, which sometimes help,
are to power re-start the lumin, log out-in from Tidal, and restart iPad.

I'm running the latest version of the app 6.0.3.

The particular problem now is that when playing an album, the playlist, the timer, forward-reverse functions only show
up every once in a while, and even then work only partially.

Are there some other strategies other than what I listed above?

Thanks

The next time this happens: cut power to Lumin, power cycle your router and all network switches. wait for the router to boot up, then turn on the power to Lumin, and reboot your iPad.

If your router has dual band, use separate SSID for 5GHz and 2.4GHz. Connect the iPad to each of them and see which works more stably for the app.

Hi Peter,

Continues to be erratic. It's routine for me to power cycle the Lumin every day, and often several times in a day. After power cycling, and log in to Tidal, everything works
as it should, and then inevitably starts to break down: for ex. tracks will not play sequentially, timer bugs out, playlists don't appear, and eventually Tidal becomes totally
unresponsive.

My router does have dual band. I'll try to figure out how to connect the iPad to one or the other-- I have no idea at this point. 5 GHz is active now. If I go to 2.4, will that
slow down my internet for other uses such as video streaming?

Where do you think the problem lies? iPad connection?

I have never have issues streaming video from the same router, so it seems odd to me that that the iPad, or the connection would be the problem.

It's always seemed like buggy software from Lumin, Tidal, or both...

Am I the only one of your Lumin users to have this problem?

Never had a problem with the Lumin app since the first day I loaded it. 7.06 Firmware & 6.03. app, and we stream from Tidal daily. I guess it would also depend on who is your internet provider. I've got Brighthouse in central Fla. That mess works and it doesn't at times but its not the fault of the Lumin or Tidal. .

Try putting the Lumin and the iPad on the 5GHZ band and assigning them both Static IP address near the top of the range. Most routers usually make their random assignments in the low numbers. I just went through a similar issue with an Auralic Aries and this fixed it. Like Peter said give the two bands different names and then you can switch the iPad back and forth depending on what you are using the iPad for. I only have music devices in the house on 5GHZ. Everything else is on 2.4GHZ.

Thanks, Jack. I'll see if I can wade into the unchartered waters of my router settings and figure out how to do this.

It still seems, and I admit I don't know enough about this stuff to have an educated opinion, that it's software related, not
streaming-signal related. I base this on the fact that often the music will keep playing, even in sequence like normal, but the playlist, timer, pause, etc are all frozen.

Same thing was happening with the Auralic Lightning DS software and I too thought it was the streamer or the software. It would keep on playing too for different times before stopping. If by chance you are using Xfinity gear from comcast the instructions are on their website for how to do it.

assigning them both Static IP address

That's good advice.

Wilco, please:
1. Assign different SSID (names) to 2.4GHz and 5GHz
2. Try to connect the iPad to one or the other specifically to see which works better.
3. Assign reserved/static IP addresses to your Lumin and iPad - with this done, the DHCP range needs to avoid the static IP addresses. For example, with a DHCP range of 192.168.1.100 - 192.168.1.255 the last number of the static IP address should be below 100 otherwise it has a chance of conflict. The static IP address should not end with .1 - it's likely used by your router.
4. After completing the above, reboot the router and also Lumin, iPad so they get the new addresses.
5. The next time you encounter this problem, try to reboot the iPad only without power cycling the Lumin, see if it also cures the problem temporarily.

Your problem sounds like the router is not handling UPnP network traffic correctly - the playlist control and timer both depend on UPnP. The music playback from the playlist merely depends on HTTP and does not involve UPnP.

Although I'm inclined to suggest using a different router, let's do the above first.
