Who has more than one pair of speakers?

And is there one particular pair that gets more playtime?

Would you give up or sell the ones that don’t get used as much even though there’s something special about them that you still love?

Re: Who has more than one pair of speakers?

Vienna acoustics beethoven's in rosewood that I sold in 2014 turned out to be harder to replace than I expected so when a pair turned up nearby at a fair price I bought them, but they share a room with a pair of salon2's so while they still do what they do better than anything else i've heard they still don't get much floor time before I start missing the scale of the revels presentation.

I totally understand. My Studio2, to my ears, are wonderful. As rotate though some of my speakers, I tend to love the one I’m with, but still miss certain attributes of the others.

Re: Who has more than one pair of speakers?

Nine additional pair of speakers make up my whole house system. I have a relatively basic surround set-up for watching sports on the big screen. Neither gets much use. My 2-channel room gets about 98% of my attention and on most days 100%.

I also have a pair of kef R107/2's but they're upstairs serving ht duties and without a separate pre/pwr I can't accommodate the kube in my 2 channel system. Tbh I don't think those kef's bring anything to the table the revels don't do better anyhow.

Re: Who has more than one pair of speakers?

I have Quad 57s, Trenner & Friedl Art, Diapason Adamantes Anniversary Edition, Boenick W5 SE, Linkwitz Orion’s, Andrew Jones designed Pioneer EX Series with TAD drivers for home theater duty, vintage IMF Super Compact II’s, JBL Decades and around five other pairs.

Lately Quads get the most playtime, Linkwitz are probably the purest and fullest sound but something causes me to like the Quads over all my other pairs. Would love to trim the herd a bit. Just sold a pair of Trenner & Friedl Ella’s, MMAcoustic monitors and Focal 807w’s which I’ll miss!

I have three pairs of speakers. Two old ones that don't get used anymore, and my current ones (see signature), which I do not intend to replace anytime soon. They are just too amazingly good.

Magico M3’s and Audio Note kits, similar to AN/E but with alnico magnets and LX wiring. Very different but love ‘em both. Needed a musical speaker to use with my 2A3, 300B, EL34 and EL84 amps. Listen to this 2nd system probably 30% of the time.

Quad ESL 57 here, too. I've threatened to sell them but instead sold two pairs of other speakers in the last few weeks to make room for a new one... Ive been hovering around Kii threes for the longest time and finally did it. i know, they're all-digital, use heavy DSP and class d amps (what was i thinking!! ).

Re: Who has more than one pair of speakers?

I have 5 audio set-ups where I can listen to nice 2-channel. I really don't move them (the speakers) around. I don't have anything as nice as the main system. I have a preamp for sale and if I say an ad for a pair of speakers within reasonable range more than what I have that someone was willing to trade, I wouldn't mind having a different pair for some of the secondary systems to swap in and out.

nice speakers (when they work ). I know it aint your first rodeo (far from it) but a major auditory adjustment will need to take place coming down from Avantgardes. If you listen to Quads in the nearfield and treat them like the giant headphones they are, little compares to them, IMHO.

Yup, I’ve heard them many many times. It may not work out. A bit of horse trading with the other dealer needs to occur and I may have just sold the Integrated amp we were discussing in the trade.

I have a horse I could trade for the Quads. Maybe even throw in a cat.

Btw, add up all the speakers in the thread so far. Whatever the total is, Mike and I know a guy in St Pete who has more. In one place. 2 buildings, but one place.

Sometimes less is more, the r700 are good looking and sounding speakers and my experience with kef in the past their 'R' series offers more detail, but without careful component matching no more musicality.

Re: Who has more than one pair of speakers?

I'm out of room and driving to get another pair of speakers today so my list will be
    Usher BE20-dmd
    Revel salon 2-for sale
    Kef R107/2-for sale
    Vienna Acoustics Strauss-for sale
Vienna Acoustics Beethovens I'm keeping forever
The salon 2 have been a compromise in my room with each movement revealing a little more of the speaker quality, but after 9 months of inching them around my room I'm going to sell them as it seems the placement I get the best imaging is where I have a bass null that sucks the energy out of my old rock recordings. sigh. These are truly amazing speakers and if I had my way I'd move my system to another room in the house that would better accommodate the speakers, but I listen a bit too loud to be let out of the basement.

Re: Who has more than one pair of speakers?

I originally started this thread with 6 pairs of speakers that were since sold. One pair of KEF, one pair of Revel, and 4 pairs of JBLs.

Since getting my Avantgarde, I've decided to focus on only the Duo XD. They are just too wonderful to swap out, not to mention a little too big/heavy to move as well.

The JBL 4367 and Revel Studio 2 are amazingly great speakers, but it was time to move on. I may regret the sale of those, but having them just sitting around is no good for them too.

It actually feels good to clean house a little. Now if I could just organize the garage and basement, I'll be good. Maybe 2019 is my year to clean house. I have a decent start already.

Re: Who has more than one pair of speakers?

I picked up a pair of Usher BE-20 DMD speakers on new years day, swapping out my salon 2 and bringing my total to 6 pair. At least I have something new to listen to while my back heals from moving monster speakers up and down stairs.

Ok...now I can do a list! Yes I have multiple pairs of speakers...

    Polk
1979 era Monitor 5 with Peerless tweeters
    Later Monitor 5 Jr+ with SL2000 tweeters
1985 SDA 2 with mild mods
    RTiA3 bookies
    RTiA7 towers
    Pioneer BS-22LR bookies
    Wharfedale Diamond 225 bookies
    Tannoy Mercury V4 Bookies

Right now the big Polks (SDA2) are inthe hybrid rig permanently and the Diamond 225s are holding tight in my bedroom mini rig. Wouldn't sell anything cause sometimes a change is good and having choices is nice.
