    Another sad development

    http://www.whathifi.com/news/tannoy-...dspeaker-plant

I better hold on to my Tannoy Canterburys. Pretty soon, even the premium stuff will be made in China.

Now that's some disappointing news, more labor to China only because its cheaper.

With this dumb move, they are destroying the heritage of the brand. I very much doubt Tannoy fans in Japan (or even China) would buy the stuff from their Prestige line if the sticker says Made in China.
I wonder how much longer before the Chinese company that bought Dynaudio closes shop in Denmark and moves the entire production to China.

Remarkably, I am seeing stuff coming back not continueing to migrate. I wonder about the logic here particularly for a premium product. My costs have been skyrocketing in China.

B&W sells to a small tech company in California and now Tannoy will be outsourcing all of its manufacturing? Dang. What a crazy week in hi-fi!

This is being covered on Facebook... I am pessimistic, but willing to see what takes place. I am disappointed that they are closing Coatbridge, but Uli Bhringer, Music Group
President says that the Prestige line will still be manufactured in U.K. They have built a large plant in Manchester. We'll see...

I will wait & see as well, but not too encouraged.

Fortunately, I (and visitors here) find the sound exceptionally satisfying with my modified Canterburys.

Not sure that I know of any speaker at any price that I would rather have overall (but then I have only heard the "big boys" at shows and at RoomPlay clients' homes, so it's unfortunately not an opinion based on direct comparisons)....

Remember too that the state of the art in consumer manufacture is Apple which makes all their stuff in China. Companies are mainly interested in the bottom line....that's what makes the stock soar, that's what is good for the shareholders, that's what brings smiles. If the company can make the product not only cheaper, but even better for the consumer, everyone benefits (except the American worker). ...one reason Trump has been winning.

    Re: Another sad development

Apple products, though expensive, are mass market devices, high end audio components are not. An audio brand's image and heritage is important in the audiophile market, not just the intrinsic quality of the product. Relocating to China for cheap labor the production of high end components will affect the brand's prestige and appeal to audiophiles.

It's like a high end Swiss watch maker would relocate its production to China. The brand would be dead.

Thank goodness Klipsch is bringing back production of the Reference line to USA. That said, their Heritage line (my favorite) never left and was always made in America.
