Speaker Cables and Interconnect -Suggestions for my system

    Dear All,

The recent MIT thread by Mike has got me thinking about my cables again. I'm current Audioquest user. I have OAK speaker cables and Earth interconnects where applicable. I do think AQ makes a great cable but, I'm looking for something with more resolution and greater dynamics and or speed. I'm one of these guys that believe in a full loom of the same brand and level of speaker cables and interconnects. In addition, moving up the AQ to a silver based cable although probably very nice is out of my price range. To that end, I'm considering the following brands. I'm using Pass Labs electronics and YG speakers.

1.) Shunyata Research - New Alpha Series

    2.) Kubala Sosna - Emotion

    3.) MIT EVO One

    Any thoughts or suggestions?

    Thanks

I'm using WyWires Platinum and happy with them - together with Ayre amps and Magico speakers.

Have you considered sticking with AQ and trying one of their silver cables? You might try something like the older Niagara or newer Fire interconnects and see what you think. They are very very good.

I also like using a complete loom of same brand. I have a Pass pre and did have a Pass power amp. I used then and still use Clarus Crimson. When I started using Clarus, it was interesting the more I put into the system the better it sounded, my experience was Clarus works better as a loom. Clarus uses different wire inside the cable for bass, mids & highs, if memory serves I believe it's continuous cell copper. Cables are mostly system dependent but in general I found the Clarus Crimson extended at frequency extremes and quieter background than other cables I've used, not that I noticed noise, just with the Crimson the background was noticeably quieter.

Wire World can also be good to add some sparkle.

I don't have experience with the brands you are looking at. I have one MIT power cable, it worked great where I am using it.

I will mention, what I was using before the Clarus was AntiCables, and, that was with my Pass. They allow a return if not happy. The sound with the AC was pristine, that's the only way I can describe it. Comparing to cables with dielectric though you'll notice the AC presentation may be a bit thinner. When comparing to the Clarus, I found the Clarus to be quieter, it made the AC sound like it had a bit of glare in comparison. Thought I'd mention it as the AC silver is reasonable. Vinnie Rossie and Spacial teamed up at the latest California Audio show with AC and was awarded Best of under $50k. If you aren't familiar, AntiCables theory is the reason cables sound different is the dielectric, so Speltz's cables are solid core wire with only a thin coating of some type. I remember getting my first set and the shock when I opened the envelope

Jorma Prime is a loom of cables I could easily recommend. Jorma sounds natural/organic, smooth, harmonically rich, resolving without straying into brightness or sterility, well balanced, on the warm side of neutral, and has a nice liquid flow. Prime has beaten out Nordost Odin in most applications in shootouts which is impressive considering the price difference. Very good value cables imho. Stepping up to Jorma Statement is a similar size jump as going from KS Emotion to Elation; you get more resolution, the soundstage opens up & overall refinement goes up a few notches. Statement like KS Elation is a more neutral, reference type cable, but still retains the same house sound.

I also like PAD cables and am buying some PAD Neptune cables soon which hit the ball out of the park when it comes to cost/performance. Neptune are copper cables. As you go up the line their topline cables are either copper alloy or single crystal silver. Another easy recommendation.

Jorma Prime is a loom of cables

loom - A flexible nonmetallic tubing placed around insulated wire or cable for protection.

No, Jorma is the manufacturer and Prime is the model. I would draw your attention to this thread which I trust will clarify the common audiophile term "loom". My reference to "loom" was in acknowledgement that the OP espoused a preference to acquire "a full loom of the same brand and level of speaker cables and interconnects", of which Jorma can fulfill this requirement as regards to the model referenced.

Sorry but my above post is the standard electronics definition of 'loom' as it has been for more than half a century.
That thread dose the opposite of clarify!

Thanks for your input, we're all learning. In this case however I wont go back and edit my comment as the OP rightly or wrongly used the term in the context of the thread I linked into.
